Make room for a weekly evening with clay and develop your skills through six sessions at our Copenhagen studio. This course gives you a thorough introduction to wheel throwing, from centering your first lump of clay to glazing your finished pieces.

With time to practise and build on what you learn each week, you’ll gradually become more confident at the wheel. Our instructor will guide you through the techniques and help you understand how pressure, movement, and the position of your hands influence the clay.

As the course progresses, you’ll explore different forms and begin working with your own ideas. You’ll learn how to work with clay at different stages of drying, when to trim your pieces, and how decoration and glaze can change their expression. Individual guidance gives you room to develop at your own pace.

What we’ll cover

  • Session 1: Centering the clay and throwing a basic cylinder.

  • Session 2: Practising cylinders and an introduction to trimming.

  • Session 3: Exploring simple shapes and developing your trimming skills.

  • Session 4: Working on your own designs through throwing and trimming.

  • Session 5: Finishing, trimming, and decorating with slips.

  • Session 6: Choosing and applying glazes to your pieces.

The course is suitable for complete beginners and those who have tried throwing before and would like to build on their skills. You don’t need a particular project in mind — we’ll help you find a starting point.

After the final session, we’ll fire your glazed pieces, ready for you to collect and use at home. Tea and coffee are included throughout the course.
