  • Level All levels — no previous experience needed

Take time to develop your skills at the wheel and follow your pieces through from soft clay to glazed ceramics. Across five daytime sessions, this intensive course offers a thorough introduction to wheel throwing, with time to practise, experiment, and build on what you learn.

You’ll begin with centering and simple forms, gradually working towards greater control of the clay. Our instructor will help you refine your technique and explore your own ideas, with individual guidance suited to your experience.

Returning to the wheel over several sessions gives you the opportunity to revisit techniques and understand how small adjustments affect the shape and balance of a piece. You’ll also learn to trim and decorate your work before glazing it yourself in the final session.

What we’ll cover

  • Session 1: Centering the clay and throwing simple forms, including cylinders.

  • Session 2: Building on the basics and exploring new shapes.

  • Session 3: Developing your technique and refining your forms.

  • Session 4: Trimming and decorating your pieces.

  • Session 5: Choosing and applying glazes.

The course welcomes complete beginners as well as those who have thrown before and would like more time to develop their practice.

After the final session, we’ll fire your glazed pieces, ready for you to collect and use at home. Organic tea and coffee are included throughout the course.
