Level Experienced — for those who have completed a longer wheel throwing course at YŌNOBI or elsewhere
Build on your experience at the wheel and take your work further through six evening sessions. This course gives you time to refine your technique, explore more complex forms, and develop your own ideas with individual guidance.
We’ll work on greater precision and control, paying attention to how your grip, pressure, and movements influence the clay. You’ll be introduced to techniques for throwing larger pieces and challenged to consider the proportions, balance, and finishing of your work.
Each session builds on the last, with opportunities to revisit techniques and work through the parts of the process you find challenging. From throwing and trimming to decorating and glazing, you’ll follow your pieces through every stage and make more deliberate choices about their form and surface.
What we’ll cover
-
Session 1: Revisiting centering and basic forms, with a focus on control and precision.
-
Session 2: Exploring new throwing techniques and refining your work.
-
Session 3: Applying more advanced techniques to your own designs and continuing with trimming.
-
Session 4: Developing your forms through further throwing and careful trimming.
-
Session 5: Finishing your pieces and decorating with coloured slips.
-
Session 6: Choosing and applying glazes.
This course is for you if you have completed a longer wheel throwing course and want to continue developing your skills. The guidance is tailored to your experience and the ideas you would like to explore.
After the final session, we’ll fire your glazed pieces, ready for you to collect and use at home.
