Wheel Throwing – 5 Days of Japanese Technique

Title

Spots:

This is an intermediate-level class, ideal for those who have some experience with wheel throwing and feel comfortable centering clay.

Over five consecutive days, you’ll explore traditional Japanese wheel throwing techniques with Daito in a focused and hands-on setting. The first four days will be dedicated to throwing – including spiral wedging, throwing off the hump, and working with tools such as Nameshi leather and Shippiki. You'll also be introduced to classic Japanese decorative methods that emphasize simplicity, form, and surface expression.

On the fifth day, we’ll finish the course with a glazing session, where you’ll learn how to glaze your pieces in a way that complements the techniques and forms developed during the week, using Yonobi’s curated glaze selection.

This intensive daytime class is perfect for those looking to deepen their skills and immerse themselves in the aesthetics and craftsmanship of Japanese ceramics.
