Collection: Gerner Jahncke
Gerner Jahncke a partnership between Rick Gerner (NL) and Johanne Jahncke (DK). A partnership for design and craftsmanship, with a focus on simple quality.
Gerner Jahncke uses what lies beneath their feet – research what material itself implies and transform earthly materials into products of everyday life. Their designs come from a tradition rooted in functionalism and are combined with the characteristics of specific materials; the outcome unfolds the richness of their cultural heritage.
All products are handmade and you will, therefore, be able to sense a human presence from the creative process of all products and no two articles will, therefore, be identical. As YŌNOBI, Gerner Jahncke considers these small variations as qualities because to us craftsmanship is essential.
Their work comes from craftsmanship; a physical relation with the material. Form and material talk together and in the process, they are characterized by the hand; the human imprint remains in the finished pieces as a sort of material memory. They maintain a continuous focus on the development of sensible form and explore the execution of the making. They have created specific tools to visualize the role of making and material features. The tools give form - whether it is their hands or any other specific creative tool - like a pencil that makes a sketch or drawing reality.
It is the small details that indicate the material’s own language, which is expressed in the shape of their pieces.
